2014 YEA! graduate, Amrita Ram, competed in the 2014 YEA! Saunders Scholars Competition in Washington, DC. The six top businesses selected to compete were among hundreds of businesses nationwide started through YEA! classes in communities across the country.
Amrita is CEO of Fresh Steps, a company she launched through the Bellevue Chamber’s first year of organizing the YEA! program. She was inspired by children's sneakers that "light-up" as they walk. Amrita knew that simple technology could be applied in a bigger way. Then Fresh Steps was born - a piezoelectric tile system that can power a building off of the kinetic energy produced by people walking!
Amrita pitched her business plan to a panel of top business leaders at the Bellevue Chamber’s YEA! Investor Panel, where she received funding and was named the Bellevue YEA! Saunders Scholar Semi-Finalist. As a Saunders Scholars Semi-Finalist, Amrita traveled to Frisco, Texas to compete in the Western Regional YEA! Saunders Semi-Finals Competition. Amrita and Fresh Steps were selected out of 23 semi-finalist businesses competing, to advance to the Finals in Washington, DC.
