Bellevue is a destination that continues to generate a substantial number of conventions and special events the year round. Meydenbauer Center, located in downtown Bellevue, is the Greater Seattle area's second largest convention facility. The Center was built in 1993 to promote and sustain Bellevue's economic vitality-and it has truly fulfilled its mission! Its impact has been enormous, contributing $25 million annually to the city's economy and bringing over 250,000 visitors a year to shop, eat and dine in Bellevue.
Meydenbauer Center features a 36,000 square foot exhibition hall, 12,000 square feet of meeting rooms, a 410-seat Performing Arts Theater and 440 parking spaces. The future of Meydenbauer Center has progressed with the approval of plans for expansion, including a $7.9 million purchase of the land beneath the building. The expansion will include construction of hotel, cinema and retail space adjacent to the Center. This expansion will strengthen the economic contributions of the center and contribute to the entire Bellevue community by doubling the economic impact brought in by convention attendees.
Meydenbauer Center is a self-sustaining facility that uses no general funds or taxes from Bellevue residents. The Center's annual operating budget is approximately $6 million, with operating expenses funded by revenues generated from direct charges to facility users, and Bellevue hotel and motel taxes.
