In order to ensure the growth of the economy on the Eastside, the issue of worker education, recruitment and retention must be addressed. Higher education institutions contribute to our local economy, are valued employers, and increase the earning capacity of current and future workers. Accessible, well-maintained and responsive institutions greatly enhance the quality of life in East King County and Bellevue.
The Bellevue Chamber of Commerce supports continued expansion and support of higher and continuing education in the East King County area to meet the growing and changing needs of our businesses and residents. The demand for highly skilled, qualified workers from East King County businesses is unmet by the Washington State higher education system. In addition, employer services focused on the recruitment, retention and training or workers is also unmet. The state should continue expansion and support of higher education and employer services in East King County.

Therefore, our membership actively and strongly supports legislative action in the following areas:

Address the shortfall in capacity to meet current and future needs
Hold educational institutions and educators accountable for outcomes
Encourage cooperation and coordination among institutions
Increase support for employer services
