Local Young Entrepreneur Takes 2nd Prize at National Scholars Competition

Bellevue, WA – Nir Pechuk, CEO of Extentek won second prize at the 11th Annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy Saunders Scholars National Competition last week in Rochester, New York. Nir is a seventh-grader at Redmond Middle School and was inspired by the desire to help his grandma who is visually impaired.

Extentek will offer a contactless material level indication device, which helps blind and visually impaired people pour any substance into a container without overpouring. “There are over 280 million blind and visually impaired people in the world. That’s about every 23rd person. Less than 1% of them can effectively pour water,” said Pechuk. “I am determined to help people like my grandma be independent again.”

“We are thrilled by Nir’s success this year through the Young Entrepreneurs Program,” said Bellevue Chamber President & CEO Joe Fain. “Nir has shown he has what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur – dedication, perseverance and a business idea inspired by a desire to make life better. We’re proud to offer the YEA! program and proud of all of our students who will be business leaders in the years to come.”

Nir is among 17 young entrepreneurs who have participated in YEA! this year - a 24-week intensive hands-on business course, a program of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce. This year’s cohort is the sixth graduating class and 83 companies have been launched through the Bellevue Chamber. Meet these budding entrepreneurs and learn more about their enterprises at the YEA! Student Business Trade Show and Graduation on May 15 from 4:00-5:30pm at the Bellevue Chamber offices located at 330 112th Ave NE, Suite 100, Bellevue.

An investor panel of judges awarded $4100 to the companies last month to help with their start-up costs through the Bellevue Chamber Foundation (to make a tax deductible contribution visit www.bellevuechamber.org/foundation) with support from Legacy Champion Columbia Bank and Corporate Sponsor KeyBank and our Academy Partner, the Bellevue School District.
