Professional Bio
Katherine Mahon is a nonprofit founder dedicated to social impact through the intersection of innovative technology and meaningful human connection. Along with CTO Alex Szebenyi, she co-founded Acquaint, a 501(c)(3) building infrastructure for human connection at a global and neighborhood scale. Acquaint's volunteer-led platform now spans three programs: Global
Conversations, where volunteers from over 110 countries meet in semi-structured one-on-one audio calls to share stories and perspectives across cultures, beliefs, and life experiences; Acquaint Walks, a neighborhood walking program launching in King County, Washington that brings the same spirit of connection into local parks and streets; and Missions, small challenges that invite people to practice connection with the people already in their lives. Under Katherine's leadership, the community has grown to thousands of volunteers contributing more than 30,000 hours of one-on-one conversation worldwide.
Katherine's artistic background has shaped how she thinks about bridging divides. While working as a 3D artist at Amazon and pursuing earlier dreams of working for Disney or a major video game company, she became increasingly aware of the polarization and hate dividing society in her home country, the US. Since founding Acquaint, addressing disconnection at its roots—locally and globally—has become her calling.
Her most valuable learning experiences come from working and volunteering alongside people across industries, including tech, art, and medicine. A formative experience was her involvement with the Atlas Corps VLI, where social change leaders from the US and Russia came together to network and learn together.
Katherine is committed to expanding Acquaint's reach and impact, and invites you to join her in building a world where human connection is something we practice, together.
