Bellevue goes green, partners with Lime for citywide launch
Bellevue Chamber | August 5, 2026
You may have already heard the news — Lime is launching their shared bikes and scooters on our home turf next week — so we wanted to do our part in letting Bellevueites know about the program before we officially go green.
As a reminder, beginning August 10 Lime will deploy 500 shared devices citywide — with a breakdown of 350 scooters, 50 e-bikes, and 100 seated gliders — and folks can unlock the devices through the Lime app, or can text 415-463-3473 to use without a smartphone. When riding, sidewalk usage is only permitted if there is no other safe alternative, and the Lime app marks where the devices can be parked.
We’ve got some more questions, though, and are sure you do too! So, let’s chip away at some of them together with government relations lead at Lime, Parker Dawson.
Q: First things first: Why is Bellevue the next stop in Lime’s expansion? What makes our community “ready” for Lime?
A: Lime has worked closely with City leaders, elected officials, and staff for years to identify what micromobility services could provide value to residents and visitors alike. Bellevue’s thriving business community and growing transit network underscore the opportunity for Lime to offer a first- and last-mile connection for commuters, neighbors, and visitors who want more ways to explore everything Bellevue has to offer.
Q: Ahead of the launch, I can imagine it has been a lengthy process to get approval from the City. What was the most important thing you learned from our local elected leaders and the community during that time?
A: Lime began working with the City three years ago to establish legislation for the operation of motorized foot scooters. Bellevue issued an RFP in early 2026, and Lime has been working closely with City stakeholders to prepare for a program launch since we won that bidding process in April.
Q: Got any safety tips for riders, drivers, and pedestrians ahead of the launch?
A: Before every ride, do a quick SWIFT check: Squeeze the brakes, check the wheels, illumination, frame and baseboard, and make sure the throttle is working properly. Riders should use the road, bike lane, or a multipurpose path whenever possible. In Bellevue, sidewalk riding should only happen if there is no other safe alternative. We also encourage every rider to complete Lime’s in-app safety quiz, follow the local rules of the road, and wear a helmet.
Q: Following the launch, where do you expect to be the highest usage areas? Do you anticipate certain times will be far busier than others?
A: We expect the highest usage in downtown Bellevue and around major destinations and transit connections, including areas like Bellevue Square, the Spring District, and other high-ridership corridors. Based on how people typically use micromobility, commute periods are also likely to be among the busiest times of day, especially for first- and last-mile trips.
Q: Any suggested routes you have for folks here in Bellevue who want to try Lime for the first time?
A: For a first ride, we recommend starting on dedicated bike lanes or multipurpose paths and sticking to calmer arterials until you get comfortable. A shorter daytime trip is a great way to get familiar with the vehicle before using Lime for a commute or longer errand. We also encourage riders to review the safety quiz in the app, follow Bellevue’s rules of the road, and wear a helmet.
Q: If someone in the community has a question or concern about Lime and micromobility in Bellevue, who should they contact?
A: For general community questions, local partnerships, and neighborhood outreach, people can contact Nikki Stuck, Community Engagement Manager, at nikole.stuck@li.me. For policy, permitting, stakeholder coordination, or broader Bellevue program questions, they can contact Parker Dawson, Senior Regional Lead, Government Relations, at parker.dawson@li.me. Riders and community members can also report issues directly through the Lime app, the QR code on a vehicle, by phone at +1.888.345.LIME, by text at +1.888.546.3345, or by email at support@li.me.
Learn more about the Bellevue Lime program here, and we encourage you to join us at the Amazon Meadow on Friday, August 21 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for the community launch event. (There will be free helmets up-for-grabs!)
