Chamber CEO says Governor Ferguson’s new tone is a welcomed one

Advocacy, Thought Leadership,
In response to Gov. Ferguson’s Thursday, February 27 Press Conference

“The Governor's focus on reform before revenue is a much-needed departure from the last several budget cycles in which the state has grown at over twice the rate of median household income growth,” said Bellevue Chamber President & CEO, Joe Fain. “The expansion of programs and the introduction of new and costly entitlements may be politically popular, and in some cases serve unmet needs, but overspending and the use of one-time money to fund ongoing expenses has manufactured the same budget crisis that plagued our state at the beginning of the last decade.”

“To date, Ferguson has shown leadership in doing a form of DOGE done right. In contrast to what we have seen in D.C., the Governor’s collaborative and thoughtful review, followed by tough decisions has created real opportunities for savings."

"As a former budget writer, I know that there are many more innings to be played before the session concludes, but Ferguson’s press conference struck a positive step for getting the state’s budget back on track.”
