BTS: The World of The Nutcracker
Local award-winning ballet school based in Bellevue, WA, Emerald Ballet Academy (EBA), invites you to step into a world of holiday enchantment with its beloved production of The Nutcracker. The 2025 edition of this timeless ballet promises to deliver enchanting choreography and live music that elevate performances.
EBA presents The Nutcracker as an annual highlight — a tradition that offers not only artistry but a shared experience for families, students, and art lovers. The presence of live music brings an immersive quality to this staging — for both audience and dancers. David Waltman serves as Music Director of the EBA Orchestra, Director Emeritus of the Rainier Symphony, and is a Permanent Guest Conductor of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. Professional guest artists from the Diablo and Milwaukee ballet companies will also be featured in this captivating Production.
Under the direction of former Bolshoi ballerina Viktoria Titova, EBA’s Nutcracker showcases the academy’s strong foundation in classical technique and artistic excellence. Rooted in both professional training and community spirit, EBA nurtures dancers of all ages — from young beginners taking their first steps on stage to preprofessional students honing their craft for the Spotlight.
We spoke with Clara Chang and Chloe Zhang about their roles in The Nutcracker:
Clara Chang is 12 years old. She has been dancing at EBA for eight years. She is “Little Clara” in this year’s production of The Nutcracker. She is most excited about the fact that her name is also Clara! She says that Little Clara can be challenging because the role requires a lot of acting, and it is inspiring for her to play a role that frequently interacts with other dancers.
Chloe Zhang is 15 years old. She has been dancing at EBA for four years. She is “Big Clara” in this year’s production of The Nutcracker. Playing Big Clara has inspired Chloe to think more deeply about storytelling and expression in ballet. She has brought her own creativity into the role by exploring Clara’s transformation throughout the ballet.
Embrace the holiday joy with EBA’s delightful two-act performance of The Nutcracker, accompanied by a live orchestra. This heartwarming production features talented local dancers alongside guest artists from renowned ballet companies across the country. Bring family and friends to enjoy the magic of the season with sparkling costumes, beautiful sets, and unforgettable performances. Performances scheduled at Northshore Performing Arts Center in Bothell on December 13, 14, 20 & 21.
